Hurricane Expo at MOSI

Tampa, Fla -- Forecasters are urging you to get ready for hurricane season, which begins June 1.

Meteorologists like 10 News' own Bobby Deskins took part in a panel discussion today at MOSI as part of the 4th Annual Hurricane Expo.

NOAA predicts 12 to 18 named storms with six to 10 becoming hurricanes.

The City of Tampa and Hillsborough fire helped set up today's expo.

Hillsborough County: Severe Thunderstorm Warning

The National Weather Service in Ruskin has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for northwestern Hardee, southwestern Hillsborough, southeastern Polk, Manatee and western Sarasota Counties until 5:00 p.m.

The National Weather Service Doppler Radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds in excell of 60 mph.  These storms have a history of also producing small hail.  The storms are moving East at 25 mph.

10 News meteorologist Chris Suchan visits Robles Elementary

10 News meteorologist Chris Suchan had a weather visit with the 3rd graders of Robles Elementary School Thursday early afternoon.

Several classes were in attendance for his powerpoint presentation on severe weather including pictures and videos of violent tornadoes and microburst winds.  In addition, storm chaser video from the eyewall of Hurricane Charley was shown.

Natasha Artis extended the invitation to Chris Suchan as he has visited many schools in the area over the past couple of months teaching kids not only about how and why certain types of weather occur but also promotes awareness and safety.

City cancels all after-school activities

City cancels all after-school activities

Tampa, FL -- Due to the severe weather, the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department has canceled the After-School Activity Program and all other programs and activities scheduled this evening, Thursday, March 31. 

 This includes adult and youth classes, sports leagues, and any other activity or program taking place at a city recreation facility.
