BARTOW, Fla. -- "USF comes through one of the most challenging chapters in history," USF President Judy Genshaft told the Tiger Bay Club in Bartow during a luncheon at the Peace River Country Club. Genshaft and USF Polytechnic's chancellor, David Touchton, answered questions from the group about Poly becoming the state's 12^th university.

Hillsborough Co. throws in the towel, pays Pat Bean

Tampa, Florida -- Hillsborough County Commissioners are tossing in the towel in their legal fight against former County Administrator Pat Bean, but it's the taxpayers that are going to take it on the chin to the tune of more than half a million dollars.

The county lost in court, fighting the decision to pay, but now they've decided not to appeal and will pay her the money, lots of money.

Mayor makes major changes to Tampa government

Tampa, Fla. -- There is a major reorganization government in downtown Tampa. Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn says it will save taxpayers $425,000.

According to a news release from the Mayor's office:

Bob McDonaugh has been named the Administrator for Economic Opportunity. The new Administrator for Economic Opportunity will focus on attracting new businesses to Tampa, help grow entrepreneurship, and grow and retain our existing businesses.

Hillsborough Co. Republican Party launches new website

Hillsborough County, Fla. -- The Hillsborough County Republican Party has announced the launch of a newly designed website, HCRP.org, devoted to news, information and upcoming events pertaining to the local Republican Party and the Republican National Convention.

Visitors can find local general information about the Hillsborough County Republican Party, information on how to get involved, upcoming events, a list of local officials and resources to get in contact with them.

Hillsborough Budget Workshop canceled

Tampa, Fla. -- If you were planning on attending a Hillsborough Commission Budget Workshop Thursday Feb. 23, scheduled at County Center in downtown Tampa, change you plans.

The Workshop has been postponed. At this point the workshop has not be rescheduled. Commissioners have to deal with a shortfall in excess of $14 million.

Public hearing to discuss Fiscal Year 2012 Budget

Hillsborough County, FL -- The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners will hold a public hearing to discuss amending the Fiscal Year 2012 Budget on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. at the County Center, 2nd Floor Boardroom, 601 E. Kennedy Blvd. in Downtown Tampa.

The public hearing will be held to revise revenues and adjust associated appropriations, transfers and reserves based on Fiscal Year 2011 year end balances.
