State budget includes money for Dozier investigation

Tallahassee, Florida - Florida's new state budget includes money for University of South Florida researchers so they can try to uncover the truth at the controversial Dozier School for Boys in Marianna.

Florida lawmakers set aside $190,000 for USF anthropologists to investigate the mysterious deaths at the former, state-run reform school during the 20th Century. Former students of Dozier School claim the school's staff committed atrocities against some of the boys.

Third-grade FCAT math and reading scores static

Tallahassee, Florida - This year's FCAT results are out for reading, math and writing and they show improvements in writing and little change in math and reading.

In third grade reading, 57 percent of students scored a three or higher on a five-point scale and are considered proficient readers. That's up one percent from last year.

Animal Services caring for dozens of cats removed from home

TAMPA, Florida - Dozens of cats and kittens are being cared for at the Hillsborough County Animal Services, after they were removed from a home Thursday

According to animal services officials, most of the 32 cats are in good general health and are being treated for fleas and upper respiratory infections.

Cats found in freezer during foreclosure eviction

Tampa, Florida-- James Hopkins, 66, is in jail on animal cruelty charges for putting cats in a freezer.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office was affecting a foreclosure eviction at a home off  Annette Avenue in Tampa when they discovered Hopkins living in the property that wasn't his. 

When they walked in, they were stricken by the stench of cat urine and feces, as more than 30 unhealthy cats were running loose. 

AAA offers "Tow To Go" service Memorial Day weekend

Tampa Bay, Florida-- It's hard to imagine why one would risk getting behind the wheel while intoxicated, but AAA's "To to Go" program makes it that much harder. 

According to AAA's website, "To to Go" offers intoxicated drivers a free, confidential ride to a safe place within a 10 mile radius, along with a free tow for their car.

Police search for missing, endangered woman

Tampa, Florida-- Tampa Police officers are asking for the public's assistance in finding 32-year-old Jamie Booker. 

They say she was last seen in the area of 98th Avenue and 22nd Street, and believe she may be in danger. 

If you have any information on her whereabouts, you're asked to call Tampa Police at 813-231-6130.
