Residents can apply for Citizen Boards and Councils

 

Hillsborough County, Florida-- Hillsborough County Commissioners are seeking residents to serve on several County citizen advisory boards and councils.

Residents interested in seeking appointment must be registered voters in Hillsborough County.

These are voluntary positions, and members serve without compensation. Applicants may apply to more than one board, but may only serve on one board at a time.

The deadline for applying is June 14, 2012. Appointments will be scheduled for a meeting of the Board of County Commissioners in July 2012.

Nominate your favorite teacher in Pollo Tropical campaign

Pollo Tropical is honoring teachers throughout May by giving 15 teachers from 15 counties free Pollo Tropical for a year through its Teacher of the Year campaign.

The winning teachers from each county are the ones with the most nominations from students and parents in their respective county.

For those who nominate a teacher, you will get a free small Pollo Tropical Tropichop with any drink purchase.

All public, private or charter school teachers in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties are eligible to be entered.

Stamp Out Hunger - leave food at your mailbox on Saturday

Tampa, Florida --  The U.S. Postal Service and its letter carriers ask Tampa residents to join them and the rest of the nation in combating one of the U.S' growing problems, hunger, by leaving food at your mailboxes on Saturday, May 12. 

According to USPS, this one-day food drive is the nation’s largest single-day food drive across America — including Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.

Homeless graduating seniors get help from Polk County Transition students

 

Polk County, Florida-- The Polk County Transition students located at USF recently volunteered to put together gift bags for homeless Polk County Public Schools graduating seniors.

The gift bags they prepared contained items for daily living including sheets, pillows, blankets, towels, wash cloths, toiletries and personal hygiene items. A roll of quarters for laundry, bus passes and gift cards to local restaurants and grocery stores were also included in the stack of items.

Donors can get free steak dinner from Outback Steakhouse

St. Petersburg, Florida -- In an effort to save lives in the Tampa Bay community, Outback Steakhouse is partnering with Florida Blood Services for Operation Donate Blood. 

Anyone who donates blood or platelets twice between May 1 and Aug. 31, 2012 will get a voucher for a free steak dinner at Outback Steakhouse. In addition to the free steak, each donor will also be entered into a drawing to win "Outback for a Year" and a suite package from the Tampa Bay Rays.

Tampa Latin Chamber Luncheon

Hillsborough County, Florida -- Tony Morejon, Hillsborough County Hispanic Affairs Liaison, will be the featured speaker for the Tampa Latin Chamber of Commerce luncheon on Tuesday, April 24 at 6 p.m. at The DoubleTree by Hilton.

Morejon will discuss current Hillsborough County issues, such as local redistricting, Hispanic representation in county government and this year's elections.
